An Unconventional Solution to Unconventional Gas?
Date:
There are no shortcuts when comes to commercialization of unconventional gas. When it comes to exploration of
unconventional gas, CBM or shale, the process involves a technical barrier to cross in order to jump from a License to spend to a License to make money. How long you spend on the R&D phase will get you to truly understand the gas. Because it is unconventional, by definition, it is not sitting in a gas reservoir as conventional oil and gas does. Unconventional gases sit in the
rock and require technical expertise to extract the molecule of gas/coal from the rock. This is where companies often go wrong. They do not spend enough time doing their R&D to truly understand what needs to be done to extract the gas.
Shale is a very tight rock that has gas content in it. It involves fracking to kick out the molecule of shale gas. Extraction of unconventional gas, involves not just finding the gas, more importantly it involves technology to figure out the rock type.
GREKA, is one of the original 5 foreign companies that signed the Production Sharing Contract with the Chinese Central Government at the Great Wall. It is the only one still working 365 days 24 / 7 on the ground working our way through what is the right technology. From R & D to full blown commerciality. In 2008, GREKA successfully broke through the technology of drilling methodology “LiFaBriC”. From the R & D phase to developing the right methodology, it will take every company at least 10 years tenure on the ground. Greka is the only foreign company that sustained the R & D phase and succeeded the R & D phase transfer into real commerciality phase.
It has been estimated that by 2020 unconventional gas production could possibly account for 30 percent of China’s total gas output. This is a time for a company like Greka to truly stand out among the others. Regardless of shale or CBM, Greka is the only one foreign company that is a Pioneer in technology in China and able to provide an unconventional solution to an unconventional
resources.
